FAQ About Marijuana

How long does it stay in the system?
It depends on the study you read.  We’ve read a lot and determined the average to be anywhere from 1 week (for a light user) up to 6 weeks (for chronic use). Keep in mind it will take at least two hours for marijuana to get into the urine.  Read the product insert.

Why no exact number?
Because THC (the active ingredient in Marijuana) is stored in the fat cells, the time-frame varies from person to person depending on their metabolism.

FAQ About the Test

How do they work?
Take off the safety cap. Dip the test strip in a cup of urine for 30 seconds. Put the safety cap back on. Lie the test down. Wait 5 minutes for result. Read the INSTRUCTIONS or Watch the VIDEO.

What kind of cup should I use to collect the urine?
Any clean, unused cup will do.

How accurate are the tests?
Our instant tests are up to 99% accurate. The only test that provides 100% accuracy is a laboratory test. You can read more by downloading the PRODUCT INSERT.

How do I read the results?
The top line is the Control (C) line and should always be present regardless of whether the result is negative or positive.  The bottom line is the Test (T) line and would appear only if the result were negative.

  • In other words, if both lines appear the result is negative. If only one line appears (the top, or Control Line) the result is positive
  • If the bottom line (Test line) appears but the top line (Control line) does not the test malfunctioned and is invalid.  The Top (Control) line must show up for the test to be valid.
  • A result with no lines at all is also invalid. Make sure the test was dipped in the urine for 30-60 seconds or the test strip might not absorb the urine.

What should I do about faint lines?
A faint line should be treated as a developed line.  In other words, if two lines appear but one or both of the lines looks faint, the lines should be treated as developed and therefore negative (remember, both lines means negative).

What should I do if I get a positive result?
All positive results should be confirmed by GC/MS (a testing method performed in laboratories).

Will any foods or other medications cause a positive reading (called “false positives”)?
No food would cause a positive result unless the food contained Marijuana. The only known medication to cause a false positive for Marijuana is Sustiva (Efavirenz).  We have not found any substances to cause a false positive for cocaine.

What about poppy seeds?
You’re thinking about Opiates.  These tests do not test for Opiates.

How long are the tests good for?
The shelf-life is 18 months from manufacture.  Be sure to check the expiration date prior to testing.

FAQ About Laboratory Confirmations

Why should I get a confirmation?
Again, no brand of instant drug test is 100% accurate.  The only way to be 100% certain is to have the same urine specimen tested, or confirmed, in a laboratory.  And as the drug test manufacturer points out “This assay provides only a preliminary analytical test result. A more specific alternate chemical method must be used in order to obtain a confirmed analytical result. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is the preferred confirmatory method. Clinical consideration and professional judgment should be applied to any drug of abuse test result, particularly when preliminary positive results are indicated”.

Note: it is important the laboratory test the same urine used with the initial drug test. Again, refer to the product insert.

So where can I get this confirmation done?
We can provide you with a confidential GC/MS confirmation of the drug test result through our federally certified laboratory partner.  Click here to order a laboratory confirmation kit.

What’s in a laboratory confirmation kit?
A chain-of-custody form which will already be filled out for you, a urine collection cup to ship the specimen, and a pre-paid FedEx Airbill (which will also be filled out).

What is the procedure?
Once we receive your order for the laboratory confirmation kit we will email you instructions and issue you a confidential patient number.  We will then overnight you the lab kit.  You will package the specimen and lab form ready for FedEx pick up (or take to a FedEx drop off center).  You will receive the result via email about 72 hours after the laboratory receives your specimen.
